We were having a few issues with Nash gaining his independence. Plus dealing with having a new baby brother and me not giving him my undivided attention was not going well. So Darin and I decided we needed to do an intervention to try to redirect he negative behavior.
So I came up with a schedule. I noticed he was bored often and would get mouthy when he was searching for something to do. Of course we didn't stick with the schedule all day. It was mostly when I saw the behaviors come out I would say "what does are schedule say we should do?" Nash liked being in charge of the schedule and put it together after dinner each night for the next day.
Nash's pre-school used a stop light as their behavior intervention. I tried it at home since Nash understood the concept. I got all of his favorite things such as Netflix, iPad, LeapPad2, Dinosaurs, Beyblades, etc. and put them on the GO! When he started to act out one of the favorites would be moved to SLOW DOWN for a
